34-year-old saxophonist Hans Ulrik can't complain. Last year he won a Danish Grammy for his cd
"Jazz and Mambo" - an easy-to-listen-to (but not easy- listening) jazz best seller. The very same cd was chosen as "Record of the Year" by the readers of the Danish magazine Jazz Special. The
Danish Jazz Journalists Association gave their prestigious JASA Prize to Hans Ulrik. And you could say that he scored a hat trick when he was chosen as the Danish band leader in connection with
the 2000 Jazzpar project. The concerts were a great success, with lots of improvisation. All three nights the tapes were rolling, and the music was also recorded in the studio.
Hans Ulrik himself chose the tracks issued on this cd. The music covers a wide field, from simple, lyrical tunes to highly complex
ones, and there are melodious ear-catchers and funky grooves. Everything played with spirit by top-notch professionals. |
