The unusually talented Swedish singer Josefine Cronholm stars on the cd "Red Shoes" in a
repertoire which really suits her naked vocal style. The music consists of a handful of gypsy swingers, e.g. a new version of "Wait Until Fall", a couple of Swedish bossa novas made famous by
Lill Lindfors, a surprising cover version of Janet Jackson's "Together Again", a few camp-fire jazz tunes and a couple of notable sketches such as the Cuban-inspired song "Anna Castberg". The
band String Swing functions beautifully. There's hard-swinging Jacob Fischer on acoustic guitar, band leader Søren Siegumfeldt's brilliant and unpredictable saxophone, Jacob Gurevitsch on rhythm
and "atmosphere" guitar and August Engkilde with the incomparable bass sound and the unswerving beat. Not taking into account four tunes on Søren Siegumfeldt's last cd, "Red Shoes" is the band
String Swing's debut on cd. We hope and trust that "Red Shoes" will reach a large audience with a taste for quality music. |
